About Brown Memorials

Brown Memorials, founded in 1908, is a fifth generation family business which designs and manufactures memorials, both private and public as well as signs and other features.

Since 1908, Brown Memorials has produced memorials using the highest standards in order to create the finest memorials possible.  Second generation owner and president, Claude W. Brown, said he wanted to leave cemeteries better than he found them.  We have sought to do just that.

Brown Memorials has, for several decades, been a member of the American Institute of Commemorative Art (AICA).  The Institute is comprised of the leading designers and producers of private and public memorials from the United States and Canada who have distinguished themselves in the field of memorial art.  Membership in the institute is by invitation only and is limited to sixty memorialists in North America.  Brown Memorials is the only member in either of the Carolinas.  Bill Brown, our third generation president, has won numerous awards for his monument designs.  He is past president of both the AICA and our national organization, the Monument Builders of North America (MBNA).

Claudia Brown, the fourth generation and current president of the company is past president of the American Institute of Commemorative Art, member of the Monument Builders of North America, and past board member of the Monument Builders of the Carolinas.

Her son, Bran Oswalt, is now the fifth generation, and has already established himself as a respected designer in the industry.  In 2014, he became one of the youngest speakers in the American Institute of Commemorative Art’s 64 year history.  His designs have been installed at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC, The Florence Veterans Park in Florence, SC and will soon be in Fort Bragg, NC.  He has also submitted a concept for a national World War One memorial to go in Washington DC.  He continues to carry on the family tradition of excellence in memorial design.

"I certainly appreciate all of the employees there who have shown such consideration for our family... Please extend (our) heart felt gratitude as well for such a wonderful job done professionally and with great personal compassion."
