Company History

In 1908, John Francis Brown, founder, began selling monuments, traveling over 100 miles by horse and buggy.

His son, Claude W. Brown, expanded the business by opening a manufacturing plant in Florence, SC, in the middle of the 1920s. He employed only top designers and craftsmen, and by using the best manufacturing equipment of the day, he determined to build monuments second to none. His goal was to leave cemeteries better than he found them.

In early 1950, Claude W. Brown, Jr., joined his father, bringing with him an architectural background and creative ideas which resulted in many years of recognition as a leading designer and speaker in the industry. He served as president of both the American Institute of Commemorative Art and The Monument Builders of North America.

The business is presently run by fourth generation sister and brother, Claudia Brown, president, and Pat Brown, vice-president.
